2001 Ecce Homo

The fourth race of the European Championship was organized in this little town in the Czech Republic. The circuit is 7800 m long with an average of 4% grade. The racers must concentrate very well as there are nine hairpin bends and the road is very narrow. Running on this circuit requires all the knowledge of the racers.
On the Saturday trainings the fight between László Szász and Leitgeb went on. Leitgeb showed the strenght of his car and did 3:47,82. Getting back to the depo he made some more changes in the settings of his car. After the second training Leitgeb turned out to be faster again. This time he did 3:05,81 (~151,12 km/h) At the same time László Szász's time was 3:15,72 (~143,47 km/h)
On the Sunday race the spectators could see something that probably they had never seen - Szász and Leitgeb had exactly the same time-result: 3:03,82! After a little setting of the wings the second run came. The air was vibrating, the tension could nearly be touched. László started right before Leitgeb and he made a fantastic start. He did 3:06,95. Then Leitgeb came and did 3:10,29, which meant that Szász was 4 seconds faster.
