2001 Mühlbach am Hochkönig

The next scene of the Mobil Mountain Cup was in Austria. This race was decisive for both László Szász and Walter Leitgeb for the final victory. The tension could be seen on their faces - they knew they had to win the race.
On the first training the French Lionel Regal had the best time - 1:38, 401. It was followed by the time of Leitgeb - 1:41,440 and then László's 1:41,750. On the next training Regal was the fastest again with 1:38,435. László was the second best with 1:39,155 and Leitgeb the third with 1:40,631. At the third training the order didn't change.
The Sunday race brought big excitement as the first four fastest racers (Leitgeb - 1:38,316; Regal - 1:39,835; Stenger - 1:39,971; Szász 1:40,018) had much better time than all the others. So it was sure that one of them would win. As it started to rain before the second run the chance that the order could change was very big. The weather was the most favourable to Stenger who made 1:56,691. Lionel Regal came in second with 2:02,943 and László Szász became the third. For us it was very important that Leitgeb could gain only the fifth place losing valuable points and thus his chance to win the Cup became very little.
